Update on Most Recent Influenza-Like Illness (ILI) Local Activity

  • Marion County emergency department visits for Influenza-like Illness (ILI) symptoms were higher than we normally see this time of the year, but most visits had a non-influenza diagnoses like acute upper respiratory infections, pharyngitis, or unspecified viral infections. 

  • During Week 41, ILI symptoms made up 1.33% of Marion County ED visits. 

  • There have been 0 influenza-associated deaths for Marion County residents this flu season. 

  • In Marion County hospitals’ ED population, ILI was most common in the 0-4 age group. Among ED visits by 0-4 year olds, 5.29% was for ILI. ILI among ED visits by 5-17 year olds was next highest, at 2.71%.

  • The percentage of ILI related ED visits was 1.42%. 

  • Children age 0-4 had the highest age-specific percent ILI (4.60%).
