MESH Board of
Directors Member Dr. Lisa Harris, was recognized by the White House and the
U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) yesterday. Dr. Harris, was
one of eighty-two healthcare providers from across the country who were
recognized for their successful
implementation of electronic health record (EHR) technology.
During the town hall
event, senior White House and HHS officials discussed progress and barriers on
the road toward a national health IT system. Staff from the HHS Office of the
National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC) was on hand as Dr. Harris shared her insights regarding
the ever-changing role of health IT in healthcare. The importance of health IT
adoption and effective implementation was underscored today, as the ONC
announced that more than 100,000
health care providers are using electronic health records that meet federal
standards.
Under the
leadership of Dr. Harris, Wishard has been an active participant in the ONC’s Beacon
Program. The Beacon Community Cooperative Agreement Program is part of a larger
movement to modernize healthcare through technology. The Program seeks to
demonstrate how health IT investments and EHRs advance the vision of
patient-centered care, while achieving the three-part aim of better health,
better care at lower cost.
